Cometeer – Is Frozen The Future Of Specialty Coffee?

Instant coffee has come a long way...

from those dehydrated Foldgers crystals.  Today we've got coffee in tea bags, super concentrate, and even specialty instant, but there's still room for the bar to be raised.  This brings me to the newest, and dare I say most unique option to enter the market lately, Cometeer. They call it "Earth's First Hyper Fresh Coffee". Now, that may be a slightly debatable phase, but it could be true if you shoehorned the word "instant" between "fresh" and "coffee".  But that's just my knee-jerk reaction to that pretty broad statement, and my guess is I'm not the only one who feels a bit skeptical.

They've remained pretty tight-lipped about their process. To date the way they've described it is pretty unclear, saying they use the "world's most advanced coffee brewer". From there the fresh brewed coffee is flash frozen, which in theory retains the exact flavor profile from its fresh brewed state. This is what really intrigued me about the Cometeer product. That, and they have been sourcing from some pretty big name coffee roasters like George Howell, Equator, and even my local award winning roaster, Bird Rock. So the question is, does a frozen puck of coffee thaw out and taste just like a fresh brewed cup? Well, hit play on the video above and let's find out.
