Coffee Recipes – The Best Pumpkin Spice Latte & Cold Brew

Pumpkin spice has arrived...

in nearly all the cafes around the United States, and likely all of the Starbucks all over the world.  I'll give you a moment to rejoice if you're excited for the taste of Fall.  Done?  Okay, but if you're like me, and you're a bit of a purist you don't tend to dive in headfirst into the seasonal beverages.  Yet, I don't want to be a curmudgeon.  I love the holiday season, and I love coffee.  So I'm taking a stab at making a specialty coffee version of these beverages to bring the Fall flavors home.

To start off we'll for this we'll need:

  • 1 1/2 cup filtered water
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin purée
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. Allspice
  • 1 tsp. Nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. fresh Ginger

To start we'll make the simple syrup.  Just put the water and sugar into a saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves and you reach a boil.  Now just add all of the spices and pumpkin purée and simmer over medium-low heat for 10 to 15 minutes.  This may vary a bit so you may want to give it a taste to make sure it's at the flavor intensity you're looking for.  Once it's done, remove from heat, strain into a jar and let cool to room temperature (it'll keep in the refrigerator for a week).

Now that our syrup is ready, we'll make some drinks.  Check out the video above to see how to make the best Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) and the current Fall obsession, Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew.  You'll be putting Starbucks to shame in no time flat!
