What I’m Thankful for in Coffee

It's easy to fall into a routine...

and begin to take the things you have for granted.  I do my best to step away from those feelings when they creep up, but I'm only human and sometimes you need something like the holiday season, or more specifically Thanksgiving to bring you back around.  Even though Thanksgiving is more of a social construct, and has some negative history attached to it, it does remind me to think about what I'm thankful for.  And since this is a coffee blog I want to talk about the things I'm thankful for specifically related to that hot bean water.

A Social Life

I've never been all that social of a person, and I'm still not.  But coffee has given me a community full of unique characters from different backgrounds and experiences.  Whether we see eye-to-eye, or maybe we're at odds, I've been welcomed into the social circle with (mostly) open arms.  Whether its a local, regional, or international event I've always felt like I belong within the specialty coffee circle.

Lasting Friendships

In my adulthood I've found developing friendships with others more difficult than when I was in school.  For some reason building bonds with others has been a struggle prior to landing in coffee.  Once I asserted myself as a presence in the community I found a small, tight-knit group of friends.  We coincidentally became The SproCast and have now been releasing weekly podcasts for the last year.

A Passion & Career

If you've been following along since the beginning, or read my bio, you probably know I came to coffee from law enforcement.  I have fond memories of my time and friends from those days, but they feel like a lifetime ago at this point.  Coffee fell into my lap when I moved to San Diego in 2015 and it's been a whirlwind spromance.  Coffee gave me a new direction at a time where my other passion had began to fade.  It allowed me a creative outlet for my photography, videography, website building, writing, and meticulous attention to detail.

These three aspects are just a small glimpse into what I'm thankful for both inside, and outside of coffee.  I'd also like to give thanks to you, my readers.  As December approaches so does a year of posting on this blog, and it's been a slow build but the audience is growing and I'm just getting started!
